new hair & repeat pieces

I mentioned the other day that I dyed my hair. Well, here are the results, except that it's a little bit lighter in real life. It's kind of a mix of blonde, brown, yellow and orange, but it's really been growing on me this past week.

I wore this outfit the other night just hanging out with some friends. I just keep wearing this skirt, I really need to find a similar one that isn't corduroy! This is probably the 10th time it has popped up in an outfit post! Whoops! And this crop top is a piece that expired in my shop. I tried it out and kinda liked it. Who knows, maybe it'll go back into the shop, or maybe it'll just stay in my closet.
This week has totally thrown me off. I've been working overnight, sleeping all day and then being lazy for the couple hours I have between waking up and going back in to work. But it's finally over now and I couldn't be happier! Back to regular, structured life! I hope you all have a great weekend! I know I'll be enjoying what feels like the first time off I've had in weeks!

costume change

My days off work usually consist of several costume changes. I think I just get wrapped up in everything when I'm sewing and trying things on and checking them out. It's kind of ridiculous how many times I change outfits! Is anyone else guilty of this?!

But really, a costume is really kind of what this outfit feels like to me. It looks a lot more grungy than it felt at the time! I have had that sweater for years and I don't think I've worn it once! I've also had the shorts for forever and have almost worn them to their death. And then, I finally gave the sheer top (with only a bra) a try and I think I liked it..? I guess I was feeling a little daring with this look. But I only ran to Target to grab some hair dye (I'll share the results soon, if you haven't seen them on instagram) while wearing it.

like a glove

This is my perfect dress. It fits like a glove. I thought it was pretty great when I thrifted it at least a year ago. Then, I thought it was really great whenever I shortened it. But now, I think it's the greatest after I took off the pouffy sleeves a couple of weeks ago! I kind of want to wear it everyday. What is your perfect piece?
And then the shoes, I've been dreaming of some of these shoes (any kind of clog sandal really) for so long now and I finally went for it a few weeks ago. So glad I did! I know they will get a lot of wear this Summer!
Speaking of Summer -- does it feel like Summer where you are?! It was 90-something degrees when we took these pictures, it's been crazy!

off time

It's been pretty rare lately that Rickey and I have a whole lot of time off of work together. Our work schedules are kind of backwards, but this week I've been working some overnight shifts, so we've matched up a little bit. The other day we finished up all of our tax business, grabbed some lunch and took it to the park, looked at some dogs at the Humane Society and went grocery shopping all before I headed back into work later that night. We managed to get a few quick outfit shots even though the wind was shooting right at me.

Over the weekend I decided to finally dedicate a day off to working on my 'stuff to work on' pile. Those days are almost always hit or miss. Either just about everything will turn out pretty great or I'll end up messing a bunch of things up. Luckily this was one of those good days, actually a really great day! I fixed up so many things that had been waiting around for so long. A lot more of them went into my own closet than (will be going) into the shop, but I'm so happy to finally have made some progress on it! Including this skirt and the perfect fitting dress minus its funny puffy sleeves! I just want to wear the dress everyday now!

easter sunday

This is what I wore on Easter Sunday. We managed to snap a few pictures of my outfit outside as I was running out the door to my Mom's house. So, that explains the not so great shots. I asked Rickey to get some pictures of my shoes since I hadn't shared them yet, but his shadow was in every picture! Haha, better luck next time hopefully.

The shoes though. I fell for these Seychelles and hunted down a pair on ebay last year. Turns out that this off white color is pretty tricky to wear, for me at least, they just blend in with my pasty white legs. But I decided that Easter would be a good day to try them out! And the dress is one from my shop that hadn't sold. I decided to try it on the other day and I really like it!

I hope you all had a nice Easter!

new dress

This is what I wore when we went to see Ben Kweller the other night. And this is a new dress that I just got. I very rarely buy new pieces of clothing, so the last few weeks have been pretty wild for me! I've gotten a few new Summery dresses and a couple of tops too. AND some shoes that I am waiting on to arrive, pretty impatiently might I add. Do you have any new purchases that you're really excited about?

my pencil breakthrough

Here is what I wore one day last week to do some running around. Another new polka dot top and a newly altered skirt. This Fall I discovered how great pencil (ish) skirts can be. Before them I really only wore full skirts, mostly in floral prints, but now a whole new door has been opened for my wardrobe! They just give an outfit a whole different feel than a drapey full skirt does and I really like it!

Have you had any style breakthroughs lately? I'd love to hear yours and maybe have another myself! :)

bare legs, bare arms

This is what I wore to work the other day. Bare arms and bare legs! The weather has been SO wonderful! After work I went to dinner with a friend and we sat out on the patio, it was sooo nice. I'm so thrilled about having all of the windows open too! I sure hope this weather is here to stay!

Both the shirt and skirt were thrifted and altered and the shoes are from H&M. I kind of wish I had these shoes in every color

simple stripes.

Oh hey. So, first of all, hello from an unexpected weeklong blog break. We had our floorset at work last week, which meant working crazy overnight shifts and then sleeping all day. And when I finally woke up at 4 pm-ish most days I didn't really want to do much beside feel sorry for myself that I had to be back in just a few hours. Lame, I know, but it just kind of happened.

These pictures were taken real quick on Saturday after a trip to the farmer's market. The weather was so nice that I was able to go out without tights on! At this point I am so tired of tights, I feel like they have been making a lot of my outfits look too fancy lately. I'm ready for easy, casual outfits. Like this super comfy, super simple dress! And these sandals, I lived in them last Summer and think they might be ready for retirement soon. I guess this means the hunt is on for a new pair!
Also, I guess the camera on my phone isn't quite as incredible as I had thought. Bummer.

what i wore.

Yesterday upon getting ready for work I knew I wanted to dress for Valentine's Day and wear some red or pink. Then I realized that I don't have any red or pink dresses. So, I ran into my office/studio/shop room (whatever) and grabbed this dress. It's one that had been in the shop before and hadn't sold. I had planned on taking the sleeves off, but hadn't gotten around to it yet. So a quick fix, I cut the sleeves right off, threw on a red cardigan and was ready and festive!

I came home from work to Rickey, some flowers and some chocolate. We went out to dinner and headed home for dessert and some Netflix. Now that he's working all the time it was really nice to just have a little date night.

thursday

One of the few things that I dislike about our apartment is that there is no overhead lighting in the living room. Having a lamp in the corner gives off an orangey glow in pictures and then editing them just makes them look a little funny. But it's okay, not that big of a deal.

Even though this shirt looks light blue it's actually green and white striped. And it is just the kind of shirt that I will grab almost anytime I see one in a thrift store... which is every time I go. Button down shirts like these are what I usually live in during the Summer. They go perfectly with a skirt, some high waisted shorts, jeans, tied up over a dress, there are so many possibilities! And they're even better when you roll up the sleeves! Wearing this one makes me that much more anxious for Spring to get here already.

If you've been here before then you've probably already seen this skirt. And the shoes too! I'm sure I'll throw on my trusty rust colored cardigan (which has made a few appearances) to head to work in just a bit.

What are some of your favorite pieces to wear over and over?

what i wore.

Here is what I wore to work yesterday. It feels like ages since I last posted an outfit around here, but hopefully that'll start to change!
This shirt is one I thrifted recently because I'm really just kind of a sucker for peter pan collars. The skirt is another piece that was thrifted and then altered and I am now in love with it. And the shoes... I got them at H&M the other day for $13! I just happened to stop in after work one day and spotted these in a couple different colors (I got the green too) I think I may have to go back for the orange ones.

This weekend was too fast and too sad. We said goodbye to a friend who is leaving for the navy this week and will be gone for the next six years. Six years is a long time. It hit me even harder to realize that when he returns we will be 28! TOO WEIRD! Other than weird/scary events and realizations my weekend was pretty productive. I have a bunch of stuff that'll be making its way into the shop soon.

a little bit different.

This outfit isn't exactly something I would normally wear, but it's what I threw on the other day when I had to run a few places in the freezing cold. I am probably the weirdest person ever when it comes to boots. Two Christmases in a row I decided that I HAD to have boots, but so far no matter the boot, I look and feel weird in them. I guess it's just one of those things I can't pull off. Do you have any pieces that you feel like you just can't pull off?

Then there is this cardigan, I can't get enough of it. The color just seems to go so well with at least 80% of my wardrobe. I probably wear it too much. On another note, we recently picked up that great little side table at one of my favorite thrift stores for $6! It was such a great find and the perfect piece to fill that kind of awkward space between the chair and front door.

same place, different day

Mission accomplished! I have now worn 4 of my challenge pieces and decided to get rid of the last piece! Sorry the color is way off, we don't have any overhead lighting in this room and lamps make for some funny lighting.

This cardigan is one of my new favorites. The rusty color is perfect and I kind of want to wear it everyday. The skirt is another piece that I bought for the shop, but decided I liked it too much to part with it. I've got to stop doing that!

I think I need to make this wardrobe challenge a regular thing!

two and three

Man, I am really looking forward to it being light outside by the time I get home from work!

These are pieces two and three of my challenge for the week. I think I may have to do this every week. It makes getting ready for work in the morning a lot easier, knowing at least one thing that I am definitely wearing. This sweater was a birthday gift from a friend that I hadn't worn yet. I really like it, it's super comfy and warm, the only bummer about it is that the large knit kept getting snagged on stuff at work. The shoes are some that I picked up at a thrift store a while back and hadn't worn them much. They may not look like much, but they sure are comfortable! And finally, the dress is one that I had purchased for the shop, but ended up keeping for myself instead.

Tonight is for cleaning up, putting up Christmas decorations and reading blogs. It should be a nice night. Is anyone as behind as we are on putting up Christmas decorations?

12/06

First of all, I apologize for the crappy picture and for the fact that this is probably pretty similar to how they'll look for a little bit (thanks to such early darkness and its effect on my camera). Anyway, here is the first piece for this week's challenge. I love the colors and cut of this polka dot top and have decided that this one is definitely a keeper! I also really like this skirt (and its green twin too) and this sweater has been a pretty solid staple in my wardrobe for the past couple of months.

Now we're off to finally get a christmas tree! I can't wait to get home and get decorating!

thanksgiving

So, as you can see, this camera's quality is quickly going downhill. It's been pretty bad in low light for as long as I can remember, but now in bright daylight it's even getting blurry. Unfortunately this silly and sassy pose is the only one that turned out. Looks like a new camera is climbing its way to the top of my Christmas list!

This is what I wore on Thanksgiving. This horse print dress is one of my favorite dresses (you can see it again here) and the shirt underneath the dress is another of my all-time favorite pieces. It's great for wearing alone as a top or layered beneath a dress for the cute addition of a peter pan collar and ascot (also like this)!
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

Mustard and Hunter

Yesterday I managed to wake up 20 minutes earlier than usual, put on an outfit I liked and actually make it to work on time! It was a pretty good start to the day! I really like the bold colors in this outfit, the mustard yellow and hunter green are such nice cold weather colors. I rediscovered this blouse in a pile of thrifted stuff that I've had for over a year and never worn! I sure am glad I held onto this one! I recently thrifted the corduroy skirt along with a matching one in tan. I shortened them and ended up keeping them both for myself!
I thought it would be fair to include Maude in a photo since she was just prancing around while I was posing in front of her, so she took a quick break from rearranging some of my stuff (that headband in the corner) to join me. Cats are such funny animals.
I can't believe another week has just flown by!

Do you have any fun weekend plans?
I have to work tomorrow, but tonight I'm really looking forward to just hanging out with Rickey (since he's always working) and doing something fun.

10/12

Here is a little peek at a completed piece of our living room. I bet you're thinking what a lovely fireplace that is, right? And you haven't even seen it plugged in! haha. They're styrofoam logs with a little light bulb in there. That bear and german shepherd up on the mantle are some awesome thrift finds that I've had for quite some time now. They're actually Avon cologne containers. Their heads can be opened to reveal one very strong man smell and the other smells like straight alcohol. Maybe it doubled as a funny flask at some point.
I bought this dress a couple weeks ago and had intended to sell it. That was until I tried it on and found out it fits me perfectly! It seems pretty rare that I come across a vintage dress that has the high waistline that I really love, so I usually fake it with a belt, but this one is perfect! I threw this dress on for work the other day since throwing things on is really what I do most days since I can never seem to wake up early enough to get to work on time anymore! Whoops!

haha you can see some little ears in the bottom right corner.

last weekend.

Last weekend we finally had some time where Rickey and I were both off work and were able to do some running around together. We took a trip to the farmer's market, the grocery store, moved a few more things in and finally settled in for a fondue dinner and a movie.
We stopped for lunch at one of our favorites, Blues City Deli. After we ordered the owner said "Have you heard of the Foo Fighters? They're a rock band and they're supposed to be coming here today!" We didn't stick around long enough to see if they came by, but I hope they did. I would definitely recommend Blues City to anyone visiting St. Louis!
We headed a few blocks away to this little park to get a few pictures before more running around. I am pretty pleased with the weather we've been having lately and even more pleased to be able to wear tights again! I really hadn't realized just how short this dress is until seeing these photos. Whoops!
Oh! I also dyed my hair recently. I used that new foam dye. I liked that it wasn't messy, but it left my hair feeling really coarse and dirty for the next few days. Has anyone else used it?
