Come On, Cool Weather!

With all of the really nice cool, breezy weather we've been having here lately I've been wishing for fall more than ever! I've been in a style rut for a little bit now, just repeating outfits that I like. I'm out of summer stuff to wear, and I'm just ready to move on to fall clothes! Some things that I'm most excited to wear and need to hunt down are...
Some cute little granny-ish ankle boots. I've been searching for some for the last month or so now, maybe it's time to just buy some on etsy?
Some big, comfy, oversized sweaters. And after finding this one I want a mustard one too!
I want to find some big pretty scarves to wrap myself up in!
knee high socks! I have a couple pairs of nylon knee socks and I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've tried to wear them, but they just look so silly! I love how they look on other girls, so maybe I'll try some from made a different material.
I really need some new jeans. I think I like black ones best. I also really want a cute tan hat. I've also been seeing cute hats like this one out and about recently and love the look. Hopefully I can pull it off!
A new (old) pair of oxfords. I wore mine almost to death last winter. It's about time for a new pair.
Pretty dresses like these. I'll hunt down some good ones and try to recreate some cuties like these.
I'd also love a pair of knee-high boots
And I hope to find a blazer that fits like a glove. AND has elbow pads!

What are you guys looking forward to wearing during the coming seasons??

Scratch That!

Scratch what I said last time about being unmotivated! Right after I posted that entry I guess I felt kind of obligated to work on some stuff. Maybe I just needed to get that out there and that was enough to get me out of my slump! Whatever the reason, I've been working on stuff like crazy and am very excited about it! Here's a peek at some of the items that have just been added or will be adding in the next few days. Enjoy!
P.S. I just got my river pictures back, I'll share as soon as I get them scanned in.

8/20/10

Dress (actually a skirt) & vintage Coach bag: thrifted
Vest: thrifted in Toronto
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

Wow! It's been a while since I've done an outfit post. I took these photos before I went out to run some errands yesterday. They're not very good, but I figured since it's been weeks since my last one I should probably just post it anyway. I REALLY need to get better about taking pictures!! It's something that has been annoying me for a while now, but I just don't seem to be getting any better about it. I think I need to set a goal of making it a point to always bring my camera with me and take at least a couple pictures whenever we're out and about.

I think goal setting could be very beneficial to me right about now. I keep coming up with all of these ideas on how I want to expand the shop and all of these new handmade items I want to work on, but when I get the chance I keep ending up being totally unmotivated. It really stinks! I'll think of a really great idea while I'm at work and want to run home right away and start working, but when I get home I probably just end up laying around and watching a movie with Rickey.

Anyone have any helpful tips on getting motivated?? If so, please share! I think I'll make my own "4 Simple Goals" list--inspired by Elsie from A Beautiful Mess and share with you guys soon.

Flea Market Finds!

Sunday, my friend Mary Kate and I got up bright and early and went to a flea market. It had been a while since I'd been to one, but we found some great stuff! I got the vintage Coke bottles. I love how tall and skinny they are! I plan to get some flowers to put in them after I clean them out. I also got some vintage keys that I want to make necklaces with. One of the last booths we stopped at had this 4 volume collection of YEAR books, so I snatched them up right away!
They're completely filled with tons of pictures. I can't wait to read them! Then I also picked out this album off of a table filled with free stuff. I'm not familiar with Norman Luboff, but if his music is as neat as his album art then perfect! I'll give him a listen!

Also, I've added a few new items to the shop and plan to add some more throughout the week. I hope you like them!!

Style Icon : Volume 1

Michelle Williams
I have loved Michelle Williams for so long! Ever since she played that sassy Jen on Dawson's Creek. She is ALWAYS looking adorable, whether she's walking around town with that cutie, Matilda, or at some kind of event. She looks good with long hair, super short hair, as a blonde and as a brunette! Is there anything she can't pull off?
THEN, she got with Heath Ledger! He is one of my favorite people of all time. I have been in love with him since I first saw 10 Things I Hate About You (which is still one of my all time favorite movies). He was just so charming, and good looking, and that accent! When the two of them got together they were like the ultimate couple!
Whether she's sporting a classic or a more modern look, she's always right on key! And seeing her layering and bundling up makes me want the cooler weather to come faster!

The Road

I saw the movie, The Road a while back and was completely blown away. It is the story of a father and son fighting for their survival in a post-apocalyptic world. Viggo Mortensen is awesome in it, as well as his sweet little son, Kodi Smit-Mcphee. I really haven't seen too many movies with Viggo in them, but he seems like he's almost always a pretty big badass in all of his roles. This was definitely true here! It is such an intense and incredible story that i had to read the book right away!

I had heard that in the book you learn more about what has actually happened to the world and why it has happened. I was really looking forward to finding these things out, the movie left me with some questions and I expected the book to have all of the answers. Well, it wasn't true. You don't know what has happened, but it's like it isn't even a concern. It goes further than that. There are so many details that you just don't know. Just like you get to know these characters so well, what they're feeling, thinking, how they do things, but you don't know things like common facts about them. We don't know what their real names are (usually referred to as Papa and the boy), where they're from, who they are (although the father's job may be hinted at). You soon realize that these details are no longer important in their world. All that matters is survival.

It is suspenseful, thrilling, frightening and exciting. It'll keep you on the edge of your seat cheering them on for their survival. They are so likable and full of love for one another. Their love and protection for one another keeps them going and fighting for their lives.

I read that Cormac MaCarthy was inspired by a trip to El Paso, Texas with his young son. He imagined the land in the future in a different, barren, firey state and thought about his son as well. The story came to him a few years later and it was dedicated to his young son. After reading that, I imagine them as real people, as McCarthy and his son.

It's a pretty terrifying thought that something like this could one day happen to our world. If it does though, I'll be one of the good guys. I'll be carrying the fire

I HIGHLY recommend this book and movie to all of you! If you read/watch it let me know what you think!

The Snail and the Pigeon

The lovely girls from La Ville Inconnue recently had the great idea to start a nice little international gift exchange! I was really excited to find out about this and to start getting involved. I always read about the Delightful Dozen and think that it's such a neat idea to share items with other people and just send them around the world! I have finally finished all of my "By the Sea" themed swap shopping and am excited to send it off!

I had originally wanted to do this post and share my partner's work with all of you, but for some reason I am unable to upload any of it! She is a photographer who has done some really wonderful work! I think all of her Bondi beach photos on her flickr have to be my favorite. And she has a website for her photography with some really awesome shots there too!

In other news this weekend has been full of work, shop stuff and sharks! Does anyone else love SHARK WEEK? It really stinks that we don't have cable here--we went to a friend's house last night to hang out and watch some :)
