PostSecret

"PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail
in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard."

Today, for some reason PostSecret popped into my head. After checking it each week for so long and then suddenly forgetting about it for a couple of years I am so glad to see that it is still going on! It is such a neat idea and it's incredible how big it has gotten, big enough for four books and new secrets up on their website every week! PostSecret is filled with anonymous secrets ranging from hilarious to heartbreaking and everything in between. It is a really neat and eye opening project!

New secrets added every Sunday.

The Avett Brothers

Rickey and I went to see The Avett Brothers on Tuesday night. I'll spare you all of the details of the mix up that made this a two hour road trip instead of what I originally thought was going to be a 45 minute drive.
This was my second time seeing The Avett Brothers and their performances are kind of mind blowing. I cannot believe the intensity and power of their voices, the beauty of the music and all of the feelings it all provokes. I really never would have expected to love the banjo as much as I do thanks to these dudes. I also wouldn't expect to ever tear up (or maybe even cry) at a concert, but they got me again there with how incredible their music is.

They put on a really great show and played some of my favorites like 'January Wedding', 'Murder in the City' and 'At the Beach'. They're also always so well dressed and pretty nice to look at.

So really, if you've never heard them before and you think you may be interested in something with more heart, soul and beauty than you've heard before then check them out right NOW! You'll be glad you did.

I wasn't able to find any photos from the show we saw, but these ones can be found below.

The "Rules" of Retail

I'm sure that some of you work in retail and if you do you know how ridiculous people can be sometimes. Anytime I work over the weekend I am always blown away by how terrible some people can be. In my 5 years in the retail field some of the things I've realized are...

01. The customer is always right. We all know the saying, but some people really take advantage of this one. You know, you can yell at, criticize, argue just about anything with a store employee and if they want to keep their job they usually have to give you what you want no matter how awful you are.

02. You break it, you don't have to buy it. And if you knock it over or throw it on the floor you don't have to pick it up. If you bring trash into the store you can just set it down wherever you please. If you spill something you can just walk away and act like it never happened (or even better, claim that it was already there and that you slipped on it and try to get some money out of it!)

03. Shop like a crazy person and there's nothing anyone can do about it. You want to see what the front of a shirt looks like? Go ahead, yank it out of the rack with all of your strength, leave it sticking out and walk away. Employees aren't really allowed to tell you not to do that.

04. When you're shopping nothing else matters. Bring your kids shopping with you and let them run free and destroy stuff while you're too busy to pay any attention to them. Seriously. Over the weekend I saw a little girl hanging on the edge of a table and she pulled it over on top of herself along with the mountain of product folded on top of the table.

And you know, some other ridiculous stuff.

Of course, there are still some nice and polite shoppers and if you're one of them I really thank you for existing!
I would love to hear some feedback about this. Do you work in retail, or any other field really, where people think that it's really okay to act this way?

Kate

Lauren posted these last week and I just had to do the same after admiring them. The always gorgeous Kate Winslet even more stunning than ever. Not only is she lovely, but such a fantastic actress too! Um, and also a super lucky lady to have shared the screen with Leo!  I think that second image has to be my favorite, all of that beautiful black lace and the dramatic makeup! I can't wait to see what she does next!

Mustard and Hunter

Yesterday I managed to wake up 20 minutes earlier than usual, put on an outfit I liked and actually make it to work on time! It was a pretty good start to the day! I really like the bold colors in this outfit, the mustard yellow and hunter green are such nice cold weather colors. I rediscovered this blouse in a pile of thrifted stuff that I've had for over a year and never worn! I sure am glad I held onto this one! I recently thrifted the corduroy skirt along with a matching one in tan. I shortened them and ended up keeping them both for myself!
I thought it would be fair to include Maude in a photo since she was just prancing around while I was posing in front of her, so she took a quick break from rearranging some of my stuff (that headband in the corner) to join me. Cats are such funny animals.
I can't believe another week has just flown by!

Do you have any fun weekend plans?
I have to work tomorrow, but tonight I'm really looking forward to just hanging out with Rickey (since he's always working) and doing something fun.

Decorating Crazy : Bedroom Edition

For me, the bedroom is probably the easiest place to forget about when it comes to decorating. I usually end up decorating it with my clothes all over the place. I love all of the print mixing going on in these photos! I think all of the different florals, frames and cozyness  are pretty good sources of inspiration to help me get started on the bedroom.

What do you like about your own bedroom? Do you have any neat bedroom decorating ideas?

details

A few more pieces of our home.

01. Vintage Coke bottles and beer bottles I designed for a graphic design class
02. A fuzzy photo of some of the Royal Tenebaum themed mugs I made in a high school ceramics class
03. Brass cat and milk glass
04. Texture of a mustard yellow chair
05. Our hall corner phone booth
06. Shop clothes

Today is my day off and I'm off to a pretty lazy start. It's already almost noon and I haven't crossed a thing off of my to do list! Today I'm adding pieces to the shop and working on a birthday gift for my little sister. Better get to work!

tuesday

A few of these pieces were added to the shop the other day and the rest will be added this week. I really love the brown lace dress above. The brown and pale pink combination are beautiful together and so are the collar and the buttons. I know that if I were to keep it for myself that I probably wouldn't ever find the right occasion to wear it. Those red shoes are pretty neat too, they're a fun mix between loafers and boat shoes with the woven style of huaraches! I also love the yellow blouse. I've held onto it for a couple months hoping that I could find a way to wear it and make it look like it's not way too big for me. I just can't get it right, so hopefully it'll find a home with someone who it fits perfectly!
I have so many pieces waiting to be listed, but just not enough time! I feel like within these last couple of weeks time has been flying by faster than ever! I'm pretty sure that last week was the quickest week of my life. If this is really what being a grown up is all about than I'm not too into it!

I was without my computer for a couple days, which even though put me behind on blogging I actually got a ton of work done around the apartment. I finally got all of the boxes out and just about everything set up! I think the only thing we're still looking for is a record player console. Everything is finally coming together and it's starting to look like a home!

Arrested Development

It's finally happening! It was just announced last week that Arrested Development will return for a fourth season and then a movie! I recently re-watched the series on Netflix. I finished on Friday and the show's creator Mitchell Hurwitz made the announced the big news on Sunday. Perfect timing!
I am so excited! Arrested Development has got to be the best written, best acted, most clever and hilarious show that I know of! I had planned to include more images in this post, but got a little overwhelmed by just how hilarious this tumblr is. I may have giggled my way through the entire blog instead.

I also just read that Jason Bateman described the show to be "The Royal Tenenbaums shot like Cops" which is the best description ever!

Come on 2013, I need more Arrested Development!
Is anyone else excited about this?

10/12

Here is a little peek at a completed piece of our living room. I bet you're thinking what a lovely fireplace that is, right? And you haven't even seen it plugged in! haha. They're styrofoam logs with a little light bulb in there. That bear and german shepherd up on the mantle are some awesome thrift finds that I've had for quite some time now. They're actually Avon cologne containers. Their heads can be opened to reveal one very strong man smell and the other smells like straight alcohol. Maybe it doubled as a funny flask at some point.
I bought this dress a couple weeks ago and had intended to sell it. That was until I tried it on and found out it fits me perfectly! It seems pretty rare that I come across a vintage dress that has the high waistline that I really love, so I usually fake it with a belt, but this one is perfect! I threw this dress on for work the other day since throwing things on is really what I do most days since I can never seem to wake up early enough to get to work on time anymore! Whoops!

haha you can see some little ears in the bottom right corner.
P.S. You can still enter the MFV giveaway over on Chloe's blog!

Meet Maude!

This is Maude.
We got her over the weekend and have been having fun with her ever since. She is crazy and hilarious and wouldn't really sit still long enough to capture her extreme cuteness on camera. She loves to run and jump and play and is also a really big snuggler.
You know how cats will walk by and rub up against your leg? Well she has her own version of that where she adds a little hop. She hops up against your leg as she walks by and it still cracks us up every time. She is really talkative and I caught her chasing her tail yesterday.
We put this funny little hat on her and she acted like she was asleep.
She's pretty goofy.

Monday.

I saw this image over on Kaelah's blog a couple weeks back and thought it was too perfect not to share. Fall is awesome and perfect for all of the things pictured above. But the weird thing is that Fall hasn't really been happening. Over the weekend it was in the high 80's! It's nice that we're having good weather, but a little lame that it's not Fall weather.

Life has been so crazy and busy lately, it's been insane! Luckily we made a bunch of progress at home this weekend -- including a very adorable addition that I'll be sharing soon! As things are really starting to come together around here I'll soon have more time to give to this blog and my shop and my piles and boxes of vintage just waiting around to be listed! SO MUCH TO DO!

little things.

Every time I start getting close to the end of a notebook I get anxious to start a new one and usually leave the last few pages of each notebook blank because of that. When I do begin a new one it always starts with my 'movies to watch' list and that's just what I did last night. I cut my list down from 79 to 44 movies in the last 4 months (i did take a few off without seeing them)! I really like keeping these sketchbooks to hold all of my to-do lists, notes, ideas and all of the other various lists I make. It's a great way to stay organized.

Do you get antsy for little things like these? Or am I just a weirdo?

Also, there are only a couple of days left to enter the giveaway if you haven't already. I am really enjoying hearing about all of the things you guys are excited about!

Yum!

Yesterday after working a 12 hour overnight shift, getting a few hours of sleep, then doing a bunch of running around I came home to a brand new (and more importantly) working oven! With the change in season I've really been wanting to do some baking, but that has been impossible until now! Hopefully this weekend will be a different story that is to be filled with breads, muffins and other yummy goodies like these! Most being of the pumpkin variety.
I am most excited about making those baked pumpkin spice donuts, they sound so good! But also, how super cute is that pumpkin cake? Is there anything you're looking forward to baking?

These along with links to the recipes can all be found here.
